Czech utility CEZ is planning to invest �1.1bn in the ongoing construction of two windfarms in Romania, Fantanele and Cogealac. The two sites will have a combined capacity of 600MW, produced by 240 wind turbines, CEZ said at the announcement of its fourth-quarter results Thursday (13th August).

Romania’s 2,310 MW Turceni power plant is to receive �170m to cut emissions and increase efficiency. This will make it one of the least CO2 – intensive lignite plants in Europe, according to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, one of the project financiers.

The EU will make a final decision on the location of the new Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) in December. The timetable was announced at a meeting of the bloc’s energy ministers held in Sweden on Thursday (23rd July). Romania, Slovenia and Slovakia are vying to host the agency.
